Capturing Love: Photographing Hannah's elegant November wedding
In November 2024, I had the honor of photographing my dear friend Hannah’s wedding—a truly unforgettable experience. We’ve been friends since high school, so being trusted with such an important role on her big day was incredibly meaningful.
The day started off a bit behind schedule, but I was still able to capture some beautiful pre-ceremony moments. Each shot carried its own charm, but my absolute favorite is the cover photo.
Everything came together perfectly in that image—the soft lighting, the delicate flow of Hannah’s veil cascading over the stairs, and the serene atmosphere. We had to time the shot just right to avoid anyone walking into the frame, and the result was well worth the wait.
Pro Tip for Wedding Photographers: Always bring an assistant! Having someone on hand to adjust the bride’s veil, smooth out the dress, or fix a stray hair can make a huge difference. This allows you, the photographer, to stay in position and focus on capturing the perfect shot without interruptions.
Whether you're shooting your first wedding or your fiftieth, small details and thoughtful preparation go a long way in creating timeless, elegant images.
Behind the lens: Making Hannah's wedding day picture-perfect
One of my top priorities while photographing Hannah’s wedding was to make her day as stress-free as possible. As her photographer—and long-time friend—I took the lead on posing, lighting, and equipment so she could simply enjoy each moment.
With a strong background in posing from my college photography classes, I was able to guide the couple quickly and confidently through different setups. This not only helped keep things moving smoothly but also ensured that every shot looked natural and flattering.
To be fully prepared, I brought my reflector set and flash. Reflectors are incredibly versatile—they can block harsh sunlight or add soft, balanced light where it’s needed most. If you don’t own a reflector set yet, I highly recommend investing in one.
My flash also came in handy, especially as the natural light started to fade. While I usually prefer to shoot without artificial lighting, sometimes it’s necessary to ensure the best image quality. A good flash—expensive or not—can be a lifesaver in low-light conditions.
Overall, the wedding was a wonderful success. I was so happy with how the photos turned out, even if culling and editing them took some time. I’m excited to shoot more weddings in the future and help other brides feel confident, radiant, and beautifully captured on their special day.
