Last month, my family and I took a spontaneous day trip to Lytle Creek, California, a scenic mountain area nestled in the San Bernardino National Forest.


I had only visited once before—several years ago—and was eager to return and explore it again with fresh eyes and a camera in hand. This time, it was even more special because my sister and her kids were in town visiting. We packed up both cars with snacks, gear, and high spirits, and headed out for a day surrounded by nature.


Lytle Creek did not disappoint—the lush greenery, rugged mountain backdrops, and sparkling creek made for a stunning visual experience and incredible photography opportunities. I managed to capture some beautiful moments as well.

However, one thing that really stood out was just how crowded Lytle Creek has become, especially during summer weekends. We weren’t the only ones drawn to its natural charm. Parking was tight, and many of the usual quiet spots were already filled with other hikers and families.


If you’re planning a visit during peak season, I highly recommend arriving early and scouting out less-trafficked areas for the best shots.

Don’t forget a polarizing filter to reduce glare and make your outdoor photos pop.
